Course Details:-

 
  1. Introduction to basic concepts of vacuum.
  2. Application of vacuum in different processes. (Metallurgical, electronic, chemical, electrical, space, nuclear, pharmaceutical, food and cryogenics)
  3. Production of medium and high vacuum by Rotary, Piston, Roots, Diffusion, steam jet ejectors, Water-ring, Dry membrane and Sorption pumps – their assembling and maintenance, pump-down characteristics.
  4. Ultra-high vacuum pumps and their pumping characteristics, Handling and maintenance of Turbo-molecular, Ion and Cryopumps.
  5. Pressure measurement in vacuum systems using different primary and secondary gauges. Calibration/ maintenance of vacuum gauges.
  6. Residual gas analysis in vacuum systems.
  7. Design and Fabrication of vacuum chambers, flanges, couplings, and components for different applications.
  8. Gas flow in vacuum systems, conductance calculations and measurements on vacuum piping networks. Design of vacuum piping in process industries.
  9. Leak detection/trouble shooting/maintenance of vacuum systems, handling of mass spectrometric leak detectors, degassing procedures.
  10. Handling of vacuum based furnaces/coating units/ driers and other process-systems. Participants will also receive extensive practical training on above topics in the laboratories.

INTRODUCTION

Engineering is the activity of using scientific understanding and technical knowledge to create useful devices and processes. In the field of aquaculture and fisheries, a wide variety of activities such as site selection, design and construction of farms, facilities, equipment; design and construction of fishing vessels, fishing gear, cage systems for mariculture; formulation and manufacture of feed; processing and value addition of fish; environmental protection etc. require inputs of engineering.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this course is to introduce the fundamental tools and techniques of engineering that can be applied to enhance the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of fisheries and aquaculture.

COURSE CONTENTS
  1. Planning and Design of Aquacultural Farms.
  2. Engineering Principles of Pond Water Quality Management.
  3. Principles of Fishing Vessel and Fishing Gear Design.
  4. Design of Aquacultural Facilities and Equipment.
  5. Engineering Principles in Processing and Preservation of Aqua-products.
  6. Modeling Techniques in Fisheries and Aquaculture.
  7. Application of Statistics and Computers in Fisheries and Aquaculture.
  8. Fisheries and Aquacultural Engg Lab.
  9. Field Visits.
  10. Special Lectures.
ELIGIBILITY

Scientists in fisheries and aquaculture institutes, teachers in colleges and universities involved in education and research in the field of fisheries and aquaculture and officials in fisheries departments, directorates, ministries, banks, government and private organizations are eligible to apply.

Candidates are expected to be deputed by their employers. The course fee as given in the following table is to be paid by 27th September 09 by Demand Draft drawn in favour of ‘CEP-STC, IIT Kharagpur’, payable at Kharagpur., India

Leadership is the ability to influence a team of people towards a vision. This short-term course will help faculty participants develop pedagogy for training MBA students to lead their organisation towards a sustainable vision. They can reach IIT Kharagpur by rikshaw (Rs. 40/-) or shared autorikshaw (Rs. 60/-) / taxi (Rs. 100) from the railway station. The course will begin at 9:30 AM on Monday, 14th September, 2009. They can depart after 2:00 PM on 19th September, 2009. Travel expenses by AC 3 tier rail and local transport will be reimbursed.
